Our Story
Founded in 2019 as a legal corporation, Girls Can Hoop LLC was born with the vision of creating a platform dedicated to coaching and empowering girls through basketball. During the pandemic, the organization took the opportunity to brainstorm and develop strategies to propel this vision forward.
More than just a brand, Girls Can Hoop is a lifestyle and a movement. It represents every girl who embodies the values of basketball—confidence, leadership, and teamwork—while actively challenging stereotypes. The mission of Girls Can Hoop is to serve young girls from diverse communities, helping them develop fundamental basketball skills and healthy fitness habits.
Despite the growth of girls’ basketball, the sport continues to face disadvantages in areas like access to training facilities, mentorship, media attention, quality development programs, and more. Girls Can Hoop aims to bridge this gap by providing a comprehensive platform focused on advancing girls’ basketball. This includes establishing a state-of-the-art training facility, offering world-class coaching, personalized skill development, physical conditioning, and mental resilience training.
Girls Can Hoop also recognizes the importance of mentorship and representation. The organization connects aspiring athletes with successful female basketball players and professionals, creating pathways to success both on and off the court.
In 2023, Girls Can Hoop hosted its first skills camp in Lorain, Ohio, with overwhelmingly positive feedback. The organization also attended the WNBA All-Star Weekend in Las Vegas, promoting its mission to professional players and supporters. Girls Can Hoop continues to host and support tournaments across Northeast Ohio and the Midwest, working to expand its reach and impact on the sport.
The founder, who began coaching girls’ basketball in high school, has coached for various youth development programs and currently serves as the Head Girls Varsity Basketball Coach for a Cincinnati public high school. Their dedication to advancing girls’ basketball and fostering character development is at the heart of Girls Can Hoop’s mission.
